Café Hey presents Blake High School Visual Arts exhibit
On Saturday, December 12, Café Hey will host an art show featuring the works of visual arts students. The show will run through January 21st. Live music will be provided on the night of the 12th by The Blake High School Jazz Quartet and Nickelfront, a rock power duo.
Howard W. Blake opened in September 1956. As a traditional high school with a Performing and Visual Arts Magnet component, Blake provides a rigorous college preparatory education and a highly intense performing and visual arts magnet program for its student population. The magnet component includes music, chorus, band, guitar, piano, theater, dance, drama and the visual arts. Visual Arts students are selected for enrollment through an auditioning process that considers all current works of art, sketchbook work, potential, academic achievement, and attendance. Visual arts students are required to take all level one courses in Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Jewelry, Photography, Sculpture and Ceramics. Lonni R. Hopkins, Howard W. Blake School For The Arts Visual Arts Department Faculty and Member of NAEA, Florida Society of Goldsmiths, and the Society of North American Goldsmiths says, "The Artwork chosen for this exhibit is an eclectic mix of all of the art genres of art that are taught at H.W.Blake School of the Arts. Students come to us, some talented, and some with a desire to grow. They blossom into individuals with a passion for looking at art, talking about art, owning art, and making art. Hard work and dedication produces young artists who meet or even exceed adult artists working today."
Café Hey is committed to the showcasing of local talent in addition to serving carefully prepared coffee drinks and a café-style menu. Recently honored with the distinction of “Best Coffeeshop to Eat At” by Creative Loafing, it focuses on sustainable eating in its from-scratch pastries, soups and salads. Frequent art shows are an important component of its free entertainment roster.
The show runs from 7pm until 10pm. Admission is free. A limited portion of the menu will be available for purchase.
