Music Audition Requirements
Music students will be asked to play or sing two perform solos. Although there is no required list from which to choose, it is recommended that applicants select a solo appropriate for an audition. Students should ask their current music teacher for assistance if in doubt. Instrumental students are responsible for bringing their own instruments. Piano and harps will be provided. An accompanist will not be provided. Students may wish to perform with a CD or may choose to play/sing without an accompanist. Solos should last no more than two minutes.
Acting
Students prepare a monologue selection which should be chosen from a contemporary play. It must be memorized. Local book stores have monologues available.
Musical Theatre
Students should prepare a solo vocal selection lasting no more than one minute. The vocal selection should be from a published stage musical and must be memorized. Students are encouraged to bring their own CD accompanist. (No pop or film selections)
Technical Theatre
Students who apply for technical theatre (to include costume design, set design, stage management, lighting, sound and construction) should prepare a portfolio or a resume to include any of the following: drawings, pictures from productions, list of experiences, or any creative artistic product which shows ability and interest in stage craft.
Dance
Each student will be required to: (1) participate in a class that includes elements of ballet and modern dance technique, (2) perform a minute long solo in jazz, ballet, or modern technique, (3) have an interview with the dance faculty. Students must have the appropriate dance attire (tights and leotard) and have their music on a prerecorded CD.
Art
Students should present a portfolio containing a sketchbook and at least 10 original works. The original works should represent at least two of the following areas: ceramics, drawings, painting, jewelry, glass, photography or digital imagery. Photographs of large sculpture or ceramic works are acceptable. Drawings should be on plain white paper.
TV/Film
Television/film students must participate in an interview and provide a 1-2 minute sample of video work, a 1-2 page creative writing sample (script, story, other0 and of 1-2 pieces of digital work, produced in Photoshop or similar software. If a student has not had the opportunity to use video equipment or digital software imaging, they are still encouraged to apply. They must supply additional writing samples.
Creative Writing
Students will present a portfolio that should include examples of at least five works comprised of the following: short fiction, poems or scripts. Students will be asked to complete a writing sample at the audition.
Journalism
Students will present a portfolio that should include a sample of at least five works comprised of the following: essay, news story, editorials or scripts. Students will be asked to complete a writing sample at the audition.
