Welcome to Howard W. Blake School of the Arts!

Thank you for taking the time to review our website. The faculty, staff, and students at Blake SOTA are pleased to share our vision and accomplishments with the greater community.

Blake High School is located in the Downtown Tampa Partnership district. Surrounded on two sides by the Hillsborough River, Blake offers a variety of programs for its traditional and magnet students. Over 1400 9th-12th graders engage in rigorous academic, technical and arts programs to prepare them for success in a variety of post-secondary opportunities.

We are the premiere high school for performing, visual, and communication arts in Hillsborough County, Florida. Our magnet program offerings include visual arts, dance, acting, musical theatre, technical theatre, band, chorus, orchestra, guitar, harp, creative writing, multimedia production, and journalism. Students in these disciplines continue to receive recognition and accolades on the local, state, and national levels. Blake Happenings

Congratulations to the student award winners and their teachers for the Environmental Protection Commission's 9th Annual Photo Contest.

The award winning photos will be displayed at the Clean Air Fair in Pope Plaze on May 6, and then the May 20 EPC Board meeting. Afterwards, all 24 photos will be on display in the lobby of the EPC office in Brandon through August.

Tuesday evening the visual art students and faculty attended the 10th Annual Fine Arts Competition High School Art Show at HCC Dale Mabry.

There were 300 pieces of art selected for display from 14 area high schools.

Gold Key Awards
Gold Key Awards

These are the 13 students to win Gold Key Awards in the Alliance of Young Artist and Writers National Writing Contest. (not shown is Martha Villegas). It is a 87 year contest and it's former winners include Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, Andy Warhol, Robert Redford and Frances Farmer. This is the first win for Blake and we are proud of the thirteen Creative Writing majors! Tampa Clean City Winners

Tampa 4th Annual Clean City Day was held on Saturday March 20 at the Raymond James Stadium. Please Congratulate Deidra Meysembourg for winning 1st place for her drawing. Deidra received $300.00 for this honor as well as her teacher Lonni Hopkins received $200.00 towards art supplies.

Please also congratulate Nancy Lynn Molter who won 2nd place for her photography. She received $50.00.

Orlando, FL. February 19-21, 2010 the School of Orlando Ballet hosted the annual Regional Semi-Final Round of the Youth America Grand Prix - the largest student scholarship competition in the world. For eleven years students from all over the world gather to share the results of their hard work, passion, artistry and dedication to the art of dance. More than 500 young talented dancers competed in the contemporary and classical categories. Fifteen students from Howard W.
